Beginning Friday, March 13, 2020, our grocery assistance programs will operate on a "drive-thru" system to reduce the risk of exposure due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. Both our Greensboro and High Point locations will operate during their normal hours and days. However, all classes (including Lunch & Learn, Container Gardening, and monthly screenings) have been suspended at least until April 30, 2020. We will re-assess our options at that time. Program Description:

The Community Support & Nutrition Program (CSNP) is comprised of three components: Grocery Assistance, Monthly Health Screenings, and Educational Programs.


Grocery Assistance:  The program provides a 7-day supply of groceries (approximately 31.5 pounds) to each patron and family member once a month. The CSNP is one of the select few programs that provides fresh produce and frozen meats on a year round basis and is the only grocery assistance program that provides a home-delivery service to Guilford County homebound seniors and incapacitated adults on a monthy basis. CSNP staff are qualified to complete onsite food stamp applications and forward these applications directly to DSS for processing. The CSNP has facilities in both Greensboro and High Point, and operates a program partnered with Cone Health to impact the health of their patients. The Grocery Assistance Program serves over 1800 individuals a month and distributes over 30,000 pounds of food each month.

Monthly Health Screenings:

The CSNP Outreach Services Manager provides monthly health screenings to CSNP patrons who are predisposed to diabetes, hypertension, or obesity. Screenings include blood glucose, blood pressure, weight, and overall health checks. The Outreach Services Manager works directly with patrons to help them improve their health, and provides feedback to the CSNP Program Director.

Educational Programs:

Nutrition Education/Budgeting Skills:  Encompassing principles contained in the USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the CSNP provides Eat Healthy-Be Active Community Lunch & Learn Workshops utilizing their evidence-supported nutrition curriculum.  Topics include quick/healthy meals and snacks, making healthy eating part of your lifestyle, obesity prevention, and nutrition education for clients suffering from diabetes, high cholesterol, heart conditions, high blood pressure, etc. Two-hour classes are conducted twice a month by UNC-Greensboro, Department of Anthropology staff.    


Pallet/Bucket Gardening Project:  CSNP maintains a community garden with assistance provided by volunteer Co-Op Extension Master Gardeners.  Produce harvested is distributed to CSNP patrons.  Master Gardeners also instruct patrons on how to grow bucket or pallet gardens at their homes thus reducing food expense and dependence on the CSNP, all while enhancing healthy, nutritious diets.  

Who Can Refer?

Referring agencies include: Guilford County Department of Social Services, Greensboro and High Point Housing Authorities, Triad Health Project, Monarch Mental Health, Serenity Rehabilitation, Partnership 4 Community Care, Senior Resources of Guilford County, Veterans Affairs, PACE of the Triad, and other community partners. Individuals/families can also self-refer.

Target Population:

The CSNP is designed to serve Federal TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) eligible low income Guilford County individuals and families including, but not limited to, the unemployed, the homeless, veterans, the LGBT community, the disabled, seniors, and immigrants seeking U.S. citizenship.

Program Goals:

The Community Support and Nutrition Program (CSNP) addresses the critical Guilford County issue of food hardship in efforts to reduce the cycle of poverty by providing grocery assistance, and educational and informative nutrition support services. We strive to help our patrons become self sustaining through our programs.

High Point location: 2nd & 3rd Friday of each month from 11:00am-2:00pm

Susan Cox
CSNP Program Director

Originally from Middleburg, VA, I moved to NC in 1986 to attend Elon University where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1991. After graduating, I stayed in NC to pursue a career in service to others. 


I joined One Step Further in July 2015 as Program Director of the CSNP. I am a passionate advocate for families and individuals who struggle on a daily basis. Because of my desire to see families rise from their current situations, I also serve as the Chair of the Agency Advisory Council for Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC (SHFB), I am a Board Member of Share the Harvest organization, a Board Member of SHFB, and I serve as the SHFB Delegate to Feeding the Carolina's State Association of Food Banks.

When I am not working or volunteering, I enjoy reading and completing home improvement projects. I also spend as much time with my beautiful, intelligent, college attending daughter as possible. 

Joey Rudzinski

Program Assistant

Joseph Rudzinski, or Just Joey, is a graduate of the prestigious Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College, Class of 1990. He holds an M.F.A., Master of Fun Arts degree and has been entertaining for over 40 years. He likes drumming and models. Joey will also never turn down a free vegan cupcake.

Joey began volunteering with the CSNP in 2014 as part of the "muscle crew" to unload food trucks. He accepted and began his current role in October 2019.
